SocialMoms and Alamo Insiders have asked mom bloggers like myself to share Five Summer Getaways Every Kid Should Experience.
I actually asked my son to help me out with this post, since he is 5 years old and seems to be more of an expert on fun places for kids to go during the summer. Plus since we live in Florida, we have many great locations to choose from.

So here are my son’s top Five Summer Getaways Every Kid Should Experience:

Theme Parks-  This was actually the first thing my son mentioned. We just so happen to live about an hour away from Busch Gardens - Tampa FL, so last year we took advantage of a FREE Preschool program.  Both my son and daughter were able to go into the park for FREE.  I ended up purchasing a full pass that gave me unlimited parking and discounts on food and purchases.  Plus, we bought drinks that gave us refills for .99 cents that we could reuse each time we went to the park. We ended up going to Busch Gardens over 10 times which included going with family and with members of a mom’s group.

Of course, I can’t forget to mention Disney as another great Theme Park destination. We live about 2 to 2 1/2 hours from there and we can either drive up for the day or stay over night.  And since Orlando FL has so many great restaurants and over night stay accommodations, Disney is a great summer getaway.

Children’s Museums-  We live near many great Children’s museums. The ones in our area include, Great Explorations – St. Petersburg FL, G-Wiz- Sarasota FL, and MOSI (Museum of Science and Industry) -Tampa, Florida.  These are all wonderful locations because they offer things to keep your children entertained, and most are located near fast food restaurants or local sandwich shops so you can leave the museum for lunch, and then come back if you like.

The BeachFREE sand, water, and sun, what more can you as for.  We live about 15 minutes from the beach, so during the summer we go there A LOT.  One of the beaches we frequent has a playground, restaurant, and picnic tables so we can make an entire day of it.  The kids love making sandcastles, they look at water creatures and sea shells, and enjoy wading in the water.  However, if you decide to make the beach one of your summer getaways, remember to bring plenty of snacks, water, and sunscreen.

Bounce House Facility- This was another place that my son was really excited to mention for summer getaways.  We have a bounce house activity center in our area, so for about $5 bucks (when we go with a large group) the kids and parents can bounce for an hour.  Afterward they have a snack provided as well.  By the time we get home, the kids are ready for a nap, and so is MOM. It may only be a getaway that last an hour, but it doesn’t make it any less fun.
Botanical or Zoologial Gardens- Again, we are very lucky to be near many of these places. Sunken Gardens – St. Peterburg FL, and Sarasota Jungle Gardens – Sarasota FL are just a few in the area.  These are great places to walk around, and generally have open areas for the kids to run around and play.  Again, these are usually located near fast food restaurants or local sandwich shops so you can leave for lunch, and then come back if you like.
And remember, you can always eat on a budget when you go to these getaways. Many allow you to bring a lunch or you can bring a cooler, leave the park or museum, and then reenter. And, don’t forget on Tuesdays and Thursdays McDonalds has $1.99 Happy Meals.

Do you have any great Summer Getaways that your family likes?  I would love to hear about them!

SocialMoms and Alamo have teamed up with Mom Bloggers like myself to introduce a fun, new blogging program called “Your ideal U.S. family great getaway.”
As a family, we have been on a trip to Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, Flagstaff Arizona, and Orlando, Florida (multiples times) . Although I have enjoyed all of those trips, I think the one that has been the most enjoyable for the little ones, have been our trips to Orlando, Florida.
So with that being said, My Ideal U.S. Family Great Getaway would be spending an entire week in Orlando and hitting all the major amusement parks in the area.

First, of course, we would have to stay at a Disney Resort.  I have never had the opportunity to stay at one, and I think this would be really neat for the entire family.  To be able to overlook the park from your room, is the absolute ultimate Disney Experience.  And since you are right there in the park, you don’t have to spend the entire first part of your day trying to get entrance.

Second, we would like to attend a Character Meal at one of the Disney Theme Parks.  We have done this at Busch Gardens previously with Elmo and Friends, and the kids were absolutely amazed.  I could only imagine how they would react to seeing, Mickey and Minnie, Buzz and Woody, and my daughter would absolutely flip if she saw the Disney Princesses.
Third, I would like to visit Universal Studios.  We have not been to this park yet, but I know my son would get a kick out of it.  The main character alone Spider-Man would be enough for him to see.  Now that they have the Harry Potter Theme area as well, I think he would really get kick out of it.
Fourth, I would like to do one of those dinner theater events, like Arabian Nights.  I have never been to one of these either, and I think this would be a really cool experience.  I have heard the theatrics are great.
Fifth, did I say anything about shopping and dining yet?  Orlando has a ton of Outlet Centers, including Downtown Disney, and there are a ton of restaurants up and down International Drive. I usually take a little cash so I can purchase some designer clothes at a discount.  And, forget about a diet while you are there, because so much delicious food is at such a short distance in any direction.
Finally, while I am there, I would like us as a family to take a drive over to the Kennedy Space Center.  What is not cool about astronauts, space, and rockets?  Plus, there is a beach nearby, if you want to catch some waves or sun.
As you can tell my son had a great time at Disney!

What would be your families ideal U.S. Family Getaway?  I would love to hear your ideas.
