I decided to try my hand at making Red, White, and Blue Homemade Rice Krispies Treats on the 4th of July, and they turned out better than I expected.
First, I just used the Traditional Rice Krispies Recipe, however, I used food coloring and I divided it into 3 parts using 39 large marshmallows.
Use these directions for preparation: Original Rice Krispies
I made the first batch with 1 tbsp of margarine, 13 Large marshmallows, and then I added two cups of Rice Krispies. I placed this into the middle of a 8 X 12.25 casserole dish on top of parchment paper.
My little helper counting out 39 marshmallows!
The second batch, I used 1 tbsp of margarine, 13 Large marshmallows, mixed in 4 drops of red food coloring into the melted marshmallows, and then I added two cups of Rice Krispies. I placed this mix right before the white.
The third batch, I used 1 tbsp of margarine, 13 Large marshmallows, 5 drops of blue food coloring into the melted marshmallows (you could add more to make it darker since mine looked a little green) and then I added two cups of Rice Krispies. I placed this mix right after the white.
Then I took a piece of parchment paper and pushed these all together. After that, I chilled these in fridge for about 30 minutes, cut them into small pieces, and put them on a Patriotic tray.
The kids, and the adults thought they looked great, and tasted delicious!
If you decide to make these for an upcoming Patriotic Holiday, let me know how they turn out.
