I have a hurricane vase that I got from Home Interiors years ago. It came with a stand, however it can sit by itself on the base. I see these in stores all the time, and they are nice because they have so many uses and can be transformed for the seasons.
In the Fall I like to add pine cones to mine, a festive colored candle, and some type of decorative bow. This year, I picked up cinnamon scented pine cones at Home Depot, and got an orange pumpkin scented candle along with a ribbon from the Dollar Store. I think in total it cost me under $7 dollars to complete this craft.
Obviously, if you have a pine tree, you can pick the cones up for free. If you don’t have a Hurricane Vase take a look at Walmart, Michaels (use a coupon), or ones like these Hurricane Vases, at Amazon. Mine is 12 inches tall by 7 inches wide.
The “How To” on this is really easy. Simply put your pine cones in first, position a candle in the middle (the top should be above the pine cones and I just moved them around until the candle was secure and center), then add your ribbon last. If you burn your candle, as always it should not be left unattended. I suggest using a ribbon that has the built-in metal wire along the edges since it makes it easier to mold it into place. Once I tied my bow and got my ribbon the size I wanted, I cut off the extra and twirled the ends.
When Fall is over, I will simply replace the ribbon and candle with Christmas themed colors.
Do you own a Hurricane Vase? If so, how do you decorate yours?
If you set this Fall Decoration up, let me know how it goes.
